Do you yearn to take a more holistic approach to Housing Services and deliver the kind of change that makes a real and meaningful difference to people's lives? Then this could be just the opportunity you've been waiting for.

Set in the beautiful rolling hills at the northern edge of the Cotswolds, Cherwell District Council serves a population of more than 150,000 people. But while the landscape may be picturesque, life here is not without its challenges.

We have a complex mix of urban communities and high levels of deprivation that that are often hidden from the wider world. Cherwell, however, is a bold and ambitious Council, with a strong track record of strategic programmes and initiatives that are tackling these challenges head on.

In this key role, that sits within our Wellbeing and Housing Services directorate, you'll be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of our entire Housing Services function, with teams focused on everything from homelessness to private sector housing and the Council's own residential portfolio.

  • Oversee the delivery of individual action plans that are closely aligned with our homelessness and housing objectives.
  • Enable and empower senior Council officials to make informed decisions by keeping them up to speed with the latest housing issues and offering best practice professional advice.
  • Develop strategic relationships with colleagues in other areas of the Council – particularly those in Planning and Property Services.

To rise to the challenge, you'll need a rather special set of qualities. Professional capabilities and practical experience are obviously important. But so too are the personal attributes you bring to the role.

Key requirements:

  • Educated to degree or postgraduate level, or a willingness to study for the necessary qualifications.
  • Significant management experience in the housing sector, and extensive knowledge of the policies, procedures and legislation around it.

  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to influence at a senior level, and a talent for producing clear, concise and compelling written reports.
