Information Governance Manager & Data Protection Officer

About the role

Acting as the primary point of contact for all matters related to information governance and data protection, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, through education and enforcement of our policies when it comes to collecting, storing and handling data.  You will be advising colleagues and members in relation to the processing of personal data across the Council, as well as processing data subject access, freedom of information and environmental information requests.

You will also carry out investigations into data breaches and make decisions as to the necessity to report breaches to the Information Commissioner’s office in conjunction with the senior information risk owner.

Additionally, you will oversee the handling of corporate complaints, ensuring compliance with relevant Ombudsman codes and guidance.

 

About you

You will be an experienced information governance professional who can provide expert guidance on UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Environmental Information Regulations gained in Local Government/the Public Sector. You will have experience in drafting and implementing data protection and freedom of information policies and procedures, conducting data protection impact assessments, responding to freedom of information requests and in handling data breaches and data subject access requests. You will have a recognised data protection qualification and strong time management skills and ideally will have people management experience.
