Transport for the South East is the sub-national transport body (STB) for the South East of England. Our partnership brings together 16 local transport authorities, five local enterprise partnerships, 46 district and borough authorities and a wider range of stakeholders from the worlds of transport, business and the environment.

Our aim is to deliver better, more sustainable transport across the region, and we’ve developed an ambitious thirty-year strategy to get us there. In the process, we’ll also create new jobs, hit net-zero emissions targets and improve quality of life for thousands of residents.

We are looking for a Transport Strategy Manager to help us deliver on these ambitious plans to provide better, more sustainable transport across the region.

As part of our technical team, you’ll lead on delivering a considerable variety of elements in our technical work programme. This includes everything from work on future mobility to freight and logistics, decarbonisation, rural mobility, active travel, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and bus service improvement.

You’ll take responsibility for reviewing and updating our Transport Strategy and Strategic Investment Plan - our flagship thirty-year strategy and will have a role in shaping the future of road and rail networks in our region.

Strong leadership and effective communication will be crucial to success in the role, as will stakeholder management, as you’ll frequently be involved in liaising at a senior level with our local transport authorities, Government departments and infrastructure owners and providers.

About you

You’ll have a good understanding of transport planning issues, with experience of the development and implementation of transport strategies or transport infrastructure programmes, coupled with experience of procuring professional advice and business planning, Well-organised with strong communication skills, you’ll be able to motivate and inspire others.

The TfSE office is in Lewes but the team operate a hybrid workstyle, working from home the majority of time but travelling to Lewes, London or other areas in the South East for meetings as required.
