Senior Accountant – Pension Investments

If you’re a finance professional looking for more responsibility, join us at Warwickshire County Council. With around £3bn of assets benefitting over 55,000 members, we are responsible for ensuring that our pension fund are well governed. It’s a critical role where you’ll take the lead on delivering the pension fund accounts to the highest standards. Not only that, but you’ll have the freedom to shape your role and gain insight into our broader pension fund operations.

In this pivotal role, you’ll see that pension fund accounts are produced accurately and on time. You’ll also be responsible for making sure that the Warwickshire Pension Fund has the appropriate financial management controls, policies, and processes in place. You’ll get to work with a wide variety of stakeholders, including professional advisers, the pension fund committees and Local Pension Board, employer representatives, the Border to Coast Pension Partnership and related partner funds, and the administration team. You’ll therefore need strong communication skills and resilience to deal with varied audiences.

As well as delivering the accounts, you will be involved in aspects of the Fund’s financial management, for example, overseeing the reporting of employer contributions performance, helping to manage investment capital calls, developing appropriate financial controls and accounting policies, and liaising with internal and external auditors. With your drive for excellence, you’ll help the Fund to continually improve the quality of financial reporting.

To join us, you must have substantial post-qualification experience working in a finance environment and within a large and complex organisation. Ideally, you’ll have delivered LGPS or DB pension fund accounting before, but it’s not essential. Whatever your background, you’ll need a relevant professional qualification such as a CCAB or equivalent, plus the ability to manage a small team. A good grasp of investments or pension fund governance and financial reporting in pension funds would also be helpful, but it’s passion and purpose that counts.
