About the role
As a Principal Accountant you’ll assist the Financial Services Manager to provide an efficient and effective accountancy service to managers across the Council by ensuring they have access to timely and accurate financial advice and support to help them meet the Council’s priorities. Taking responsibility for the delivery of the following core elements of the finance function; Statement of Accounts, statutory returns and compliance, you’ll also manage a small team, providing them with supervision, mentoring and coaching to enable them to provide a first-class accountancy service.
About you
You’ll have a CCAB recognised qualification and a proven track record in a similar role (ideally in the public sector, although this is not essential) and specifically, the delivery of Statement of Accounts, statutory returns and compliance. You’ll be competent with IT-based financial systems, have excellent communication skills and be confident working with a wide variety of stakeholders as you share information and advice with others. Previous line management/supervisory experience is essential.
You will occasionally need to be able to work out of office hours and attend evening meetings.

You will be part of a Gold Investors in People (IiP) organisation which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment in which people want to live, work, visit and enjoy now, and for future generations. And with our wide range of health and wellbeing benefits, our highly flexible and collaborative hybrid Worksmart working arrangements as well as our commitment to continuous learning and development, you can be confident of joining a dedicated community of colleagues who are Happy, Healthy and Here.
